Apple Founder Steve Jobs dies; Apple's Statement
Apple Inc. co-founder, chairman and former chief executive, Steve Jobs, the man who got the vision and led a digital-cultural transformation to our every day lives, peacefully passed away Wednesday (October 5, 2011). He was 56 years-old.
He is the main man in pitching innovative products like the iPod, iPad, iPhone and other Apple products to the global market in his trademark blue jeans.
Steve has been struggling with a rare form of pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed back in mid-2004. The 56 year-old underwent liver transplant in 2009. A total of three medical leaves of absence and finally he decided to step down and he chose Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
Apple Inc. released this statement:
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
Steve Jobs’ family today made the following statement regarding his death:
Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.
In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.
We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.
Jobs’s death came the day after Apple unveiled the new iPhone 4S at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Forbes magazine listed Jobs's fortune estimated at $8.3 billion (2011). He was married to Laurene Powell Jobs, 47. He had four children.
